Industrial Lift Services wins Channel Tunnel Rail Link contract
Administrator

Industrial Lift Services is pleased to confirm its involvement in The Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) phase 2 for which it has secured the contract for the provision of lifts at The Temple Mills Eurostar maintenance depot in the Stratford area of East London. In order to secure this contract, it was necessary for the company to complete a rigorous financial and technical vetting process undertaken by Rail Link Engineering , the CTRL Project Management Company. The lifts incorporate state of the art machineroom-less (mrl) technology with an almost silent gearless drive system.

A depot at Temple Mills has always been envisaged as part of the final plan for the CTRL and bringing it forward will provide for a much more efficient operation of the complete CTRL and the Eurostar trains. This decision will enable the new depot to be provided in time for commencement of Eurostar services on CTRL Section 2 in 2007.

Background to the Channel Tunnel Rail Link

The Channel Tunnel Rail Link is the first new railway to be built in Britain for over a century and is the country's first high speed railway. The high-speed line runs for 109km (68 miles) between St Pancras station in London and the Channel Tunnel and is being built in two sections. The first 74 km section of the CTRL lies entirely within Kent and runs from Fawkham Junction (Gravesham) to Folkestone. It was finished in September 2003. The second section, which continues the railway into London, is under construction and will be completed in early 2007.

The CTRL is a Public-Private partnership project between Her Majesty's Government and London and Continental Railways Ltd (LCR). Union Railways (South) Ltd - now CTRL UK Ltd - and Union Railways (North) Ltd, subsidiaries of LCR are responsible for the construction of CTRL Section 1 and Section 2 respectively. Design, procurement and project management of the CTRL is undertaken by Rail Link Engineering, a consortium of Bechtel, Arup, Halcrow and Systra. The project received royal assent in 1996 with the granting of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link Act.
